The annual fundraiser is in memory of Bobbie Hunter Boney, who passed away in January 2005 while dealing with the devastating effects of Alzheimer's disease  Bobbie had a deep appreciation for an active lifestyle and the outdoors, so it remains our goal to combine the two in an effort to raise funds for eliminating this disease.  All proceeds for the event are used exclusively for Alzheimer's research in NC, and to create additional awareness of Alzheimer's disease throughout NC.

On Sunday May 3rd, OFA held it’s third annual Bobbie H Boney 5K and 10 Miler . The venue was the gorgeous William B Umstead State Park where runners and philanthropists of all skill levels joined us to help further Alzheimer’s research within the state of NC. The 10 miler started at 8:30 and the 5K followed at 8:45. Upon the completion of each event, OFA followed up with an awards ceremony and raffle where plenty of great prizes were given away.

Organization founder Ben Wolfe said, "There are far too many competitive long distance runners in the area to offer only a 5K, so it was an easy decision for the organization to add a 10K and a half-marathon for 2009."

The race will remain at the beautiful William B Umstead State Park venue for 2009, where is simply doesn't get any more scenic.  CLICK HERE for more information on pledges and donations.  The 5K, 10K, and half-marathon courses are all USATF certified.
